About This Place

Wojia Hunan Cuisine, nestled in the vibrant heart of Albany, CA, is a standout destination for lovers of authentic Hunan and Sichuan flavors. This restaurant delivers an exceptional culinary experience that celebrates the bold, spicy, and deeply aromatic profiles typical of Hunan cuisine, paired with the nuanced heat of Sichuan dishes. Whether you’re craving a comforting lunch or a distinctive dinner, Wojia’s extensive menu promises something exciting for every palate.

From the first bite, Wojia’s dishes captivate with a vibrant medley of textures and flavors. The Fried Glutinous Rice Balls (炒汤圆) boast a perfectly crisp exterior that gives way to a chewy, satisfying interior, while the Sizzling Tentacles of Squid excite the senses with their tender bite and subtle smoky char. Vegetarians will appreciate delicate options like Eggplant with String Beans (豆角炒茄子) and the bright, garlic-infused Sauteed Pea Sprouts, each dish thoughtfully balanced for just the right hint of spice.

Signature plates such as Ma Po Tofu (麻婆豆腐) served at lunch offer a fiery yet silky-textured delight, delivering a harmonious interplay of numbing Sichuan peppercorns and savory chili paste. The Hunan Style Sauteed Lamb (小炒黑山羊) impresses with tender chunks of lamb glazed in a deeply savory, spicy sauce, reflecting the culinary skill Wojia chefs bring to every dish. Fans of complex flavors will adore the Preserved Eggs and Jalapeno with Eggplant (擂椒茄子炒皮蛋)—a unique combination that piques curiosity and satisfies with every mouthful.

Diners seeking hearty main courses should not miss the Jianghu Spicy Pot, presented in a generous large size for sharing or a solo indulgence steeped in layers of heat and umami. The Poached Chicken with Chili Sauce and Peanuts (口水鸡) is a beloved classic, perfectly chilled chicken drenched in a spicy, tangy sauce topped with crunchy peanuts that add a textural counterpoint. The lunch specials provide excellent value without compromising on flavor, with dishes like Sautéed Dried Beancurd with Pork and Mongolian Beef bringing bold flavors in generous portions.

Wojia's dessert offerings provide a gentle finish to the fiery meals. Sweet endings like the Glutinous Rice Cake with Brown Sugar (红糖糍粑) and Red Bean Sesame Balls (红豆芝麻球) meld texture and sweetness beautifully, offering a comforting contrast to the spicier dishes. The Sweet Rice Wine with Glutinous Rice Balls Soup (桂花酒酿小丸子) is a standout for those looking to round out the dining experience with something traditional and lightly sweetened.

The dining atmosphere at Wojia Hunan Cuisine is welcoming and unpretentious, making it a favorite haunt for locals craving genuine Hunan flavors. It caters especially well to a discerning crowd seeking both spice and authenticity, reflected in the enthusiastic praise from patrons. One customer described the pork ribs as “divine,” while another applauded the “good wok hei” that infuses the dishes with an irresistible smoky depth. Although some find the service a bit unpolished—an often typical trait in many authentic Chinese eateries—the food remains the undeniable star that keeps guests coming back time after time.

Wojia’s menu invites adventurous eaters and Hunan cuisine aficionados alike to dive deep into a rich tapestry of tastes, textures, and aromas. This is a place where every dish tells a story of tradition and bold culinary craftsmanship, with each bite delivering heat and heart in equal measure. Whether you’re in Albany or visiting from afar, Wojia Hunan Cuisine is truly a hidden gem where spicy, soulful food reigns supreme.

Generous portions of delicious Hunan food. Eggplant was excellent. Pork ribs were devine. Very popular with the local, upscale Chinese community and for many good reasons. Lots of unusual items on the menu- frog, etc. We love this place.

The food is spicy and very tasty. The menu is huge and I wish I could try everything. Definitely a hidden gem. Like most tasty Chinese restaurants, service is not good. I had to grab water from the water station as my mouth was burning. I also need to bring my bill to the counter cause the waiter just disappeared. If you only care about food and nothing else, definitely try this place.

The food here is always great — I come here often and the service is Really good. Just noticed this holiday gift card deal and I’ll definitely be picking up a few. It is totally worth it.

Wojia is my favorite hunanese restaurant in the Bay area. Will definitely be back again and again. The food is spicy and has good wok hei. Farmers bowl is my favorite with mushroom, jalapenos, pork and egg. The dan dan noodles are nice but skimp a little on the pork. The sauce is delicious tho. The Kung Pao chicken was a tad sweet but still yummy. No cornstarch coating. No deep frying. The water chestnut, broccoli and lilly was nice to cut the spice. The human lamb was soft. The meat is velveted but not coated with starch which I prefer. Same with the Kung Pao chicken. They don't have a parking lot.

I really love this place. It’s a Chinese restaurant near my home. The food is flavorful and authentically Hunan-style. My favorite dishes are the Boiled Fish with Pickled (B1) and the Hunan-style Stir-fried Beef – both are incredibly tasty! The portions are generous, and the flavors are bold and satisfying. Highly recommended!

This Hunan Restaurant offers a delicious and satisfying dining experience. The sticky rice pork ribs are tender and flavorful, while the green beans and eggplant are perfectly seasoned and rich in taste. The spicy lamb skewers are also a standout, bursting with bold flavor. Don’t miss the brown sugar ziba — it’s soft, sweet, and aromatic. The restaurant has a clean, traditional atmosphere that adds to the charm. I’ll definitely be coming back again!
